Location: US-TX Houston

Description:

Provide accounting expertise and execution within the Global Petroleum Accounting organization. The Petroleum Financial Accounting team is a global financial department covering the general Financial Accounting for the entire Petroleum organization. This team is responsible for establishing global standards around finance and accounting processes worldwide while providing accounting and analytical support on a global basis.

This position reports to Supervisor - Financial Accounting.
Accountabilities:

Execution of General Financial Accounting Team Processes

* Compliance with Global Petroleum accounting policy
* Coordinate key inputs directly from the Business Partners within the division for finance processes and reporting
* Identify areas of continual improvement and propose corrective action where necessary
* Ensure timely delivery, completeness and accuracy of all standardized reports generated by the Petroleum Accounting team consistent with month-end schedule for Petroleum

Execution of Global Standards for Key Finance/Accounting Processes

* Comply with established standards, control processes and drive global consistency in methodologies around the following areas:
* Perform monthly financial reporting for Global Overhead / Other activities (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
* Maintain budgeting / forecasting models and comply with Business Planning submission requirements
* Variance analysis and commentary to explain the difference between actual and expected results
* Portfolio Valuation Review requirements
* Embedded Derivative Accounting
* Pension Accounting and related employee provisions interfacing with Financial Services and actuaries
* Bank Account and Cash management controls (including interface with Treasury)
* Sundry receivables and prepayments
* Insurance accounting for Global Petroleum
* Finance Lease Accounting
* General ledger account reconciliations
* Execute processes of all finance and accounting activities related to divested assets including o Budgets and forecasts o Invoice processing o Expense accruals o Balance sheet review items o Master data setup request o Provide input on Annual statutory accounts for divested assets o Insurance claim accounting for divested assets o Provide input on Tax accounting and tax compliance for divest assets

Sarbanes-Oxley Requirements

* Responsible for SOX certification of assigned financial controls and processes
* Ensure appropriate documentation and ownership for all key controls within the Petroleum Financial Accounting team.
* Remediation of items related to SOX deficiencies and internal audit findings

Experience & Qualifications Required

* Bachelor’s degree in Business with a strong accounting representation

* CPA preferred but not required
* Three to eight years of professional experience, preferably in upstream Oil &Gas
* Experience working with SAP System based general ledger, business warehouse and consolidation system environment strongly preferred
* Superior interpersonal skills to handle various customer and stakeholder groups
* Experience in financial accounting, reporting and overall governance
