The Position
BHP Billiton’s Global Petroleum Controllers team is responsible for external reporting, systems development, process improvement, financial analysis and governance activities for Petroleum worldwide. In addition, the group develops and delivers Petroleum’s actual and forecast reporting to Petroleum Management and Corporate. The team works directly with the CFO and CEO of Petroleum, Business Partners, regional support groups and the global Shared Business Services organization to deliver on these reporting and stewardship objectives.

The Requirements
The Supervisor - Management Reporting has the ability to develop, improve and react to a changing reporting framework while continuing to focus on key deliverables. The individual must demonstrate an ability to lead a small team with emphasis on knowledge sharing and relationship management. The successful candidate should possess strong communication and coordination skills as the role has global responsibilities which require working closely with the Business Partners (Assets), Shared Business Services (SBS) and Corporate.
Accountabilities:
Management Reporting and Analysis
* Overall coordination responsibility of the Petroleum month-end close ensuring all requirements are adequately planned and quality outputs are delivered per required deadlines, including compliance with all Group-Level Document requirements.
* Manage the preparation of Petroleum Profit Announcement and Briefing Papers.
* Ensure the integrity of asset and entity based reporting through the development of effective relationships with Asset staff and detailed understanding of the BCS consolidation system in conjunction with Shared Services.
* Preparing the key Petroleum monthly management reports including input into the BHP Billiton GMC Report for Corporate and Petroleum CSG Report for internal management in an accurate and timely manner.
* Prepare analysis and commentary for EBIT management reporting requirements, including:
Actual vs. current Forecast for monthly Flash and Corporate reporting;
Latest estimate for monthly Flash and Corporate reporting on non quarter ends (includes current quarter, next quarter and full year)
Quarter Actual vs. Quarter Forecast on quarter ends.
* Consolidation of monthly asset Flash report submissions including detailed analysis of variances and commentary.
* Prepare analysis and commentary for half yearly EBIT external reporting requirements.
* Assist in the completion of Petroleum’s external statutory reporting requirements including the Briefing Papers, Preliminary Profit Announcements, Asset Tables, quarterly production reports and other investor relations documents.
* Coordinate production, shipments and pricing reporting requirements for actual, forecast and latest estimates.
* Interaction with SBS staff to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of required reporting inputs and processes.
* In addition, this position will be involved in ad hoc project related activities and presentations for senior management undertaken within the team.
* Manage the relationship with Shared Services Adelaide and Houston to ensure they provide high quality input into the consolidation system and appropriate reconciliations are performed to source ledgers.
* Facilitate consistency in reporting and analysis through provision of standard definitions, including cost classifications and variance analysis methodologies and adoption of consistent policies.
* Provide expert financial advice on analysis and reporting issues.
* Lead the Management Reporting Team including resourcing, coaching, career development and performance assessment.
* Manage the regular review of financial performance ensuring the business leaders are informed on current results and matters affecting the Petroleum portfolio.
* Understand impact of merger, acquisition and divestment activities on performance reporting.
Coordination, Analysis and Reporting of Petroleum’s Quarterly Financial Forecast

Communication and coordination of the forecast and planning process with assets and regions.
*
Consolidation of Petroleum global asset inputs.
*
Analysis of price and exchange rate sensitivity.
*
Detailed analysis and reporting of forecast to forecast variation in short to medium term (i.e. next 5 years) performance.
*
Detailed analysis of forecast to forecast variation in NPV.
*
Analysis of changes in longer term performance at asset and Petroleum level.
*
Ensure forecasts are prepared to reflect the required ‘Mid-case’.
*
Preparation of quarterly forecast report for Petroleum management.
*
Preparation of all Corporate quarterly forecast requirements.
*
Preparation of presentations to and for management.
Analytical Deliverables
*
Assist the Petroleum Economic Evaluation team on an as needed basis to meet requirements of the annual Corporate PVR (portfolio valuation review) analysis.
*
Undertake benchmark analysis of key business drivers against peer companies.
*
Perform impact analysis of major Capital Investment proposals (peer review to Commercial Tollgate process).
*
Development of annual Petroleum Scorecard/KPIs.
*
Monitor progress of capital spending vs. annual budget - requires integration with Commercial Tollgate process for securing unbudgeted capital funds.
*
Support the Petroleum CFO on ad-hoc data requests including but not limited to: cost analysis, forecast performance reviews, Petroleum presentations, etc.
*
Provide support and information to various Corporate functions including: Corporate Tax, Investor Relations, Petroleum Tax, and Group Accounting and Reporting.
*
Assist with the preparation of the CSG Appraisal reports.
Experience & Qualifications Required
* Possess an undergraduate degree in business, finance or accounting.
* CPA / CA or equivalent post graduate qualification in finance.
* Minimum of seven years post graduate experience including experience in financial performance and financial process management.
* Financial analysis skills.
* Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is strongly preferred.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, a collaborative style and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
* Customer focus and relationship management including dealing with cultural and geographic diversity.
* Good problem-solving skills.
* Previous experience managing, developing and coaching others
* Ability to lead a small finance team.
