Role Description:
Develop, implement and verify processes that would enable the operations to realize its inspirational goal of ZERO HARM. This will be achieved by creating an acute awareness of hazards and associated risks within the workplace and embedding risk management principles in systemic and operational controls to ensure compliance to BHP Billiton and Manganese HSEC strategic objectives and targets. You will also ensure conformance to Legislation, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards by implementing the required HSEC systems at all levels in the organisation through risk assessment exercises, performance verification audits, conducting management reviews to obtain and maintain effective systems management.
This position will carry a Legal Appointment in terms of the MHSA and Regulations.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• Relevant Diploma/Degree, COMSOC 1 and 2 with 5 years management experience
• Extensive experience in an Underground Mining and Heavy Industry environment.
• Expert knowledge and understanding of all HSEC related legislation.
• Intermediate skills level in MS Packages (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
• SAP will be advantageous
• Medically fit.
• Code 08 driver’s license.
Key Performance Areas:
• Develop, implement and verify operational controls that would ensure compliance to Fatal Risk Control Standards and other BHP Billiton HSEC requirements.
• Embed a risk based approach in planning and all operational activities by developing and implementing of systems supporting a risk based approach i.e. Baseline Risk Assessment, Issue Based Risk Assessment and Continuous Risk Assessment processes.
• Develop, implement and maintain an up to date risk register of catastrophic risks, preventative and mitigating controls and conduct inspections and audits to ensure execution of control measures to reduce and eliminate risks.
• Responsible for HSEC risk assessment training and evaluation.
• Implement systems to review external incidents and conduct investigations into incidents on site to determine root causes.
• Developing, implementing and verifying compliance to Inspection, Communication, Auditing and Emergency Preparedness requirements.
• Facilitation of Health and Safety Committee meetings
• Maintenance of credible statistical information systems.
• Updating of legal appointments.
• Ensure contractor compliance to HSEC requirements.
• Responsible for HSEC functional documentation.
• Manage subordinates and maintain professional standard of HSEC discipline
