Safety $ Health Superintendent

Barrick Africa is currently seeking to appoint a Safety & Health Superintendent to develop, implement and deliver competency based. Safety Objectives which are aligned with the business plans and that all Safety Programs are implemented in accordance with Barrick’s Standards. To be developed to achieve NMGM succession planning objectives.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ØDevelop and communicate the Annual Safety Management Plan, budgets, auditing and maintenance of the Health and Safety program.

ØIdentifying and periodical review of the major hazards detrimental to health and safety of employees, by assessing the risk implement the necessary controls/training to ensure that the risk is eliminated / managed within the NM operation.

Ø Identified and risks assess occupational hygiene measurements, to determine gaps.

Ø Consultation with legislative bodies, assist National advisory bodies, and get the different agencies to come to site for Audits.

Ø Ensure accident investigations are conducted and that the appropriate remedial actions are instituted in compliance with statutory legislation.

Ø Ensure that all required health and safety training courses and visible leadership programs are maintained.

Ø Maintain ER capability for major risks on the mine site

Ø Continue with the maintenance and training on the Barrick HSE systems

Ø Manage and develop section OH&S staff and produce development plans for key succession positions

Ø Ensure monthly report and Safety KPI’s are correct and reported in a timely manner.

Ø Keep abreast of new methods, trends and technological developments pertaining to safety.

Ø Present safety training programs to the workforce and management.

Ø Include an emergency evacuation strategy of the refinery in the Crisis Emergency response Plan.

Ø Iinspects and insures the safe aircraft movement during landing and takeoff following established safety procedures.

Ø Traffic control and compliance checks.

Ø Performs standby duties / instructions as stipulated by S & H manager.

PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS

Education:

* Degree/Diploma in Safety and Health / Risk Management
* Qualified Paramedic with field experience
* At least 7 – 10 years prior experience in a supervisory Safety & Health Environment

Experience:

* Strong conceptual thinking ability
* Strong Leadership / influencing skills
* Good listening and communication skills
* Decisive, Resilience and resourcefulness
* Be able to write detailed reports and analysis
* Hold employees accountable
* Computer literate, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook
