The Regional Office provides technical and support services to all of the company’s mines in the region. Technical support functions include mining engineering, geology, metallurgy, geophysics and maintenance. Other support functions include Business Improvement, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Supply Chain. In the role of Regional Manager – Capital & Projects you will be based at the Regional Office in Perth and report directly to the Technical Services Director.The primary purpose of this position is control the management of capital expansion projects, project management, and research and development focusing on ‘Mines of the future’ for the Australia-Pacific Regional Business Unit.

Responsibilities:

• Capital budget management and approval of capital budget spending
• Ensure that the capital budget’s undertaken have sufficient economic justification and that there is sufficient rigour around this justification
• Ensure that significant capital projects are reported upon and that budget and schedule over runs are not a surprise
• Ensure that the capital management frames work is complied with at all times
• The development and implementation of a capital projects management system
• Responsible for the co-ordination/overview/management of major/new capital expansion projects within the Australia Pacific Region
• The role operates within the guidelines of the Barrick Project System (BPS). Also operates within the broader EPCM operations business model
• Responsible for the management, approval, reconciliation of capital projects, ensuring completion of work in accordance with corporate and industry design and safety requirements and time plus cost constraints to achieve project objectives
• Ensure that appropriate capital projects are presented for approval by the Director of Technical Services
• Controls engineering design work and construction
• Liaise with corporate procurement
• Ensure that the required human resources are in place – senior Project Managers/Project Managers and Project Engineers
• Ensure appropriate level of capital estimating is carried out for differing levels of studies and projects
• Ensure that the necessary disciplines and controls are in place
• Co-ordinate the entire EPCM process
• Participate in the preparation of and review of capital projects and AFE’s for operations and development projects
• Financial modelling

Experience and qualifications required:

• Tertiary qualifications (Bachelors degree level) in Engineering or a similar discipline
• Post graduate studies in Project Management desirable
• Registered Professional Engineer or Professional designation preferred
• Minimum of 15 years hands-on project experience preferably at mining operations with a track record of successful advancement
• Strong cost estimation background that has been used in financial forecasts for operating mines and capital projects
• Due diligence experience
• Overseas experience
• Project development experience
• Operations and financial modelling experience
• Project work, AFE review and approval
• Strong organisational, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
