Our client is a Natural gas infrastructure company providing services to the key areas of gathering and processing, transmission and storage, and also distribution of Natural Gas. They are currently looking to add to their Calgary team a Sr. Cost Control Engineer.
The successful Candidate must have at least the following requirements:
- A minimum of 8-10 years of cost controlling experience
- University degree in engineering preferred but an Accounting degree would also be considered.
- Candidates must be local to the Calgary market.
In addition to these requirements the successful candidate will have:
Familiarity with cost control related to PROJECTS
- Pipeline facilities would be an asset
- Other Oil and Gas project knowledge would be suitable but not preferred
*Strong skills in EXCEL
*SAP would be an asset; other comparable accounting software, expert in EXCEL is OK
Able to communicate with the Project Manager on a technical basis in order to layout the cost commitments for the project.
Knows enough about the technical aspects in order to ask “critical questions” to the PM.
Able to provide project understanding from past work experience in order to collaborate with the Project Manager to evaluate the following:
- Cash flow for the project
- The actual dollars $ going out for the commodities and services rendered
- Monthly reporting
- Must be able to evaluate the cost commitments (commodities and services not yet received but committed to purchasing); take the funding and lay down the complete monthly commitments (incl. all vendors, contractors, etc.)
- Forecasts
Reporting consisting of:
- $ Money actually paid out
- Goods and Services received; however not yet paid
- Materials and Services that are still need to complete the project
Soft Skills:
- Must be able to always be in people’s offices in order to pull information required
- Assertive
- Persistent
- Excellent verbal communication in order to acquire the information needed, then have the ability to download it back to the audience from an “analysis view”
- Strong individual who can handle the casework for an $800M to $1B project
* The ideal candidate will comes from a technical background in order to know how projects are designed and built with an aptitude for the financial's
* The odd times, candidates may come from an accounting/finance background and grow immersed in the technical project side of the business but they must understand the nature of the project/business in order to succeed.
