BHP Billiton Iron Ore is an industry leader in the supply of iron ore to the global steel industry. We are expanding our operations through a series of Rapid Growth Projects to help us meet demand. Position Synopsis

The Senior Ecologist will work with the Project Environmental Approvals team to ensure that environmental approvals are obtained in a timely manner to meet business requirements. This will involve working with engineering partners and consultants to ensure that environmental approval timelines are adhered to and that relevant biological surveys and studies meet both the Government and BHP Billiton Iron Ore requirements.

This role will also be responsible for ensuring that appropriate environmental considerations are taken into account in engineering design during the study and delivery phases of the projects.

Skills and Experience

The successful individual will demonstrate experience in completing biological surveys, preferably in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. A strong understanding of environmental legislation and the approvals process, and a working knowledge of environmental policies and procedures relating to biodiversity and survey work is essential. Experience gained in a project environment will provide you a strong project management background; a tenacious can do achievement focus, and the ability to engage successfully with stakeholders, both internal and external.

A professional qualification related to ecology, biological science or similar is preferred.
