Mine Geologist

Our most recent growth project, Rapid Growth Project 5, will take installed capacity at our Western Australian Iron Ore operations to 205mpta by the second half of calendar year 2011.
Position Synopsis
An excellent opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and professional Mine Geologist to join our team at the rapidly-expanding Mount Whaleback mine-site.
The Geology team’s goal is to maintain our excellent safety record and contribute to excellence in site safety culture while achieving our production, quality and cost targets. The successful candidate will join this team and play an important role in our success.
Working a 9 days on, 5 days off roster and reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, your role will involve supervising in-pit sampling and sample preparation; blast-hole logging and blast-blocking; production reporting and data management; routine mapping of production benches and pit wall exposures. In addition, your well-developed communication skills will be applied to liaising with mining personnel, to ensure safe and efficient ore extraction.
Skills and Experience
To be considered you will have a tertiary qualification in Geology and experience within an open cut environment. Ideally, you will have broad experience in ore quality control, geological ore definition, and pit mapping programmes and exhibit a proven team-spirited approach with effective communication skills and a solid safety and cost focus. Exposure to Maptek’s Vulcan software would be well regarded.
Location
This is a residential role based in Newman, a town of approximately eight thousand people. It has excellent sporting facilities that cater for a wide range of interests and age groups, a well-appointed shopping centre, and education services to senior level.
Full relocation and subsidised housing will be offered to the successful applicant.
