Our Client:
Our client is a privately-held oil sands company that has assembled a strong management team bringing together individuals with extensive experience in oil sands development in the Athabasca region with the resources of one of the largest energy companies in the world and having extensive field experience in operational methods and SAGD processes. The company’s first Commercial Project is expected to produce 150,000 bpd bitumen with an initial phase of 35,000 bpd projected for 2014 start-up. Concurrently, the company is also working on a separate commercial project targeted for 2015 startup.
As a 'start-up' the company is looking for smart, innovative, and energetic individuals who are eager to roll up their sleeves and contribute to their small and rapidly growing team as they all work together to define their processes, systems, and technologies and bring new ideas to life. With the size and scale of their project, and multiple phases being planned to immediately follow the completion of Phase 1 in 2014, there will be numerous opportunities to learn and grow together as they complete subsequent phases.
As the company continues to grow, it is currently looking for a senior reservoir engineer to assist in the development of its in situ oil sands projects.
Reporting Structure:
The position will report to the Manager of Reservoir Engineering.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Numerical simulation and SAGD performance prediction in support of regulatory applications, on-going project engineering and development plans
Recommendations in regard to optimal SAGD well placement, spacing and configuration
Reservoir engineering support of drilling, development, facilities, and operations engineering
Supporting on-going reserves processes
Development of individual well and full project production forecasts, including recommendations on methods to optimize production and overall recovery
Interacting with all geological consulting and service companies
Communicating closely with geology and geophysicists to ensure all geological inputs are adequately captured in reservoir analyses
Corresponding with the Energy and Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) when necessary
Planning, developing and writing technical documents
Conducting technical presentations to senior management
Mentoring junior engineers
Skills/Qualifications:
Minimum 7 years of oil sands or related reservoir engineering experience preferred
Minimum B.Sc. in Engineering.
Significant experience in the numerical simulation of SAGD and other thermal recovery methods
Experience in SAGD and thermal recovery reservoir engineering, including numerical simulation, reserves, development planning, production optimization, and economic justification of projects.
Experience supporting SAGD developments in the front end design, planning and regulatory approval phase, as well as history matching of existing SAGD production.
Good knowledge of STARS, and Accumap software. Knowledge of well bore modelling software an additional asset
Excellent planning and execution skills
Demonstrated business acumen for economic recommendation of projects

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Capacity to execute projects autonomously
Strong organizational skills
