The main objective for the Senior Geoscientist will be to expand the footprint of Maersk Oil and Gas in Kazakhstan though acquisition and exploration activity.

Areas of responsibilities will include:

Establishing high-level meetings and contacts with relevant stakeholders, identifying opportunities and managing projects for business development as determined by the strategy and business development processes, supporting the Head of BD in updating and developing strategies and business plans, liaising with stakeholders, visiting data rooms, screening and appraising opportunities, and other activities and projects as directed from time to time by the Head of BD.

The successful candidate will be working with a highly professional and demanding team both locally and from Head Office and will therefore need to show initiative, dedication and enthusiasm. Further development opportunities will be available to the right candidate.  The right candidate will be able to combine a solid technical background with a commercial awareness of the industry.

The position is to be based in Maersk Oil Kazakhstan’s Aktau office but with frequent travel within Kazakhstan and to Maersk Oil’s Headquarters in Copenhagen.

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements

• ·         Relevant Degree in Geology/Geophysics/Earth Sciences
• ·         A minimum of 10 years work experience in the international upstream oil and gas industry and a proven track record of oil and gas upstream business development
• ·         In depth knowledge of oil & gas industry value drivers
• ·         Experience of working with governments, IOCs and NOCs
• ·         Fluency in English

Preference will be given to candidates who also meet the following requirements

• ·         Knowledge of the Kazakhstan upstream oil and gas industry
• ·         Proficiency in Russian and/or Kazakh
