The construction stage of the Goro Nickel Project is well advanced and commissioning is due to commence in early 2008. Goro Nickel will be commercially producing Nickel and Cobalt in New Caledonia. When completed, the Goro Nickel will have the second largest Nickel refinery in the world. They seek to recruit a Commissioning Planner.

Reports to: Commmissioning Manager & Lead Site Planner

Responsibilities:

To provide detailed planning and scheduling service for the pre-commissioning and start-up development phase of the project in accordance with project procedures.

Duties:
* Develop individual unit commissioning and startup packages [resource and duration loaded] and verify with commissioning team
* Review commissioning and startup plan packages with production and construction personnel
* Input commissioning and startup plans into Primavera Project Planner Version 3.1 software
* Identify critical path and conflicts between construction and commissioning schedules to ensure project target dates are met
* Produce logic diagrams, resource histograms and summary bar charts
* Produce daily shift and look ahead schedules for commissioning and startup phase
* Identify permitting requirements during commissioning work
* Effectively schedule commissioning work to meet the project schedule relating to site and monitor progress to schedule
* Review existing network of activities in simplified form for level 3 project schedule
* Prepare regular status reports and forecasts for project management and client review
* Supervise and develop other planning and specialist support staff at home and/or field office locations
* Review and understand all relevant documentation pertaining to the project including scope of service, site execution plan, project schedule (including manpower plan) and conditions of contract
* Work within standardized project planning/scheduling procedures and develop additional project specific procedures where necessary
* Liaise with other project control personnel as required
* Produce weekly and monthly progress reports including narrative
* Record and report on spent hours (manual, non-manual and constructions management) on site against planned hours in manpower plan
* Maintain accurate schedule and control curves in an updated condition and prepare forecasts and trends
* Assist with preparation of project action reports (monthly)
* Assist Site Project Control Manager with preparation of reports for site coordination meeting
* Assist Cost Engineer to prepare Commissioning package forecast
* Ensure all involved parties participate in preparation of required reports and that they agree to their respective elements and approve documents where necessary

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
* Degree in Mechanical/Civil or related engineering discipline or equivalent mining or engineering project planning experience;
* Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering and/or project planning preferably in the mining/construction industry;
* Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with Citrix;
* Advanced level communication skills in oral, written and presentation mode;
* Proficient with all specialist project planning software and generic database & spreadsheet software;
* Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and achieve project deadlines;
* Proven capability to undertaking all aspects Planning and Scheduling;
* Knowledge of and experience using planning & scheduling software (eg Primavera P3/Suretrack);
* Commitment to the Goro Nickel Project Health, Safety and Environment Policy;
* Fluency in English.
