Senior / Principal Research Engineer – Technical Marketing

We are seeking an experienced technical professional to drive the ongoing development of our current suite of Value in Use (VIU) or Technico-economic models as part of our core Technical Marketing capabilities for iron ore, metallurgical coal and manganese. The candidate will work in close co-operation with Technical Marketing Specialists in the BHP Billiton Marketing function and the Newcastle based Technical Marketing technical teams from Global Technology. Reporting to the Iron Ore Team Leader, you will ideally have strong process background in at least one of the areas of iron ore sintering, coke making or iron making and be proficient in the use and development of process models. Your strong customer focus, technical expertise, teamwork and communications skills will enable you to work effectively across a range of groups and deliver improved VIU modelling tools and methodologies.
Think Purpose

Your key responsibilities include:

- Developing a strong working knowledge of the existing models and their application in partnership with the Technical Marketing Specialists

- Working closely with the relevant Technical Marketing Specialists in the scoping and planning of model improvements in alignment with the Technical Marketing strategy

- Implementing these improvement plans in close communication with all key stakeholders to deliver the next generation of VIU models

- Documenting and training others in the use of the models
Think Requirements

Prospective candidates will have a degree in the Physical Sciences or Engineering, preferably with experience in metallurgical process and mathematical modelling skills.
