Estimating Manager

Position Synopsis

Providing estimating management ensuring quality and standards are maintained throughout the Olympic Dam Expansion Project in accordance with BHP Billiton policies and standards, you will act as the single point of accountability of overall project estimates. Ensuring the overall estimate provided by Engineering Services Contractors is accurate to the corresponding level, Selection, Definition or Execution, you will manage the flow of information between different contractors, BHP Billiton and the Engineering Services Contractors. You will establish pre-requisite contract format, layout and presentations from EPCM’s to BHP Billiton and validate the estimate produced by Engineering Services Contractors to ensure it reflects all areas and the owner’s estimate accurately, and also validate and recommend internal estimates for Area Managers and the project team. Supervising the indirect and conceptual estimates ensuring accurate input to the Engineering Services Contractors estimates, you will set specific guidelines, standards and procedures for estimation activities for the project and monitor the estimation activities of the contractors to ensure standards are adhered to. You will assist the project team in improving techniques for estimating and establish control tools for the development of indirect and conceptual estimating theories and techniques.

Skills & Experience

With a degree in engineering desirable, you will have significant experience in an estimation role in an engineering environment and experience working for an EPCM organisation in mining, mineral processing or related heavy industry. Experience in quantity surveying would be an advantage and experience in working in major projects desirable. You will have experience managing vendor data, demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, superior presentation skills, and have strong computer skills utilising the Microsoft Office suite, including expert use of Excel & Access, and be competent with Candy, Quantum or similar software
