Our Client is a publicly held resource company based in Canada and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company has experienced excellent growth over the last few years, becoming a leading African gold producer with a market capitalisation of over USD1.5Bn. The Company has two key projects in West Africa, where the Company also holds an extensive exploration portfolio.

-- Description:
This is a resident position for an Exploration Manager on an operating gold mine in West Africa. The Exploration Manager is responsible for managing all exploration activities adjacent to the operation (brownfields and greenfields) and will report to the VP Exploration.

-- Responsibilities will include:
• Designing and implementing cost effective annual exploration programmes and budgets with close monitoring of costs
• Supervising and managing these programmes which will include large ongoing drilling programmes and geophysical and geochemical surveys
• Technical assistance in formulation of annual resource estimates
• Regular progress reporting to head office
• Contract negotiations with sub-contractors (drilling, geophyscics, etc)
• Continue the progression of the companies nationalization programme through various forms of training of local staff

-- Ideal Candidate will have / be:
• A graduate qualified geologist
• Previous expatriate experience in developing countries (a requirement)
• Approximately 10 years experience (preferably mostly in gold exploration) with a significant portion spent on near mine rather than regional exploration
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment
• Good self discipline and ability to work autonomously
• Familiarity with exploration and database software would be advantageous
• Well developed interpersonal skills with an aptitude for leadership and training
