Senior Geologist – coal, copper & diamonds

Our Client is a world leader in finding, mining and processing the earth’s mineral resources. Major products include aluminium, iron ore, coal, copper, uranium, and diamonds, gold and industrial minerals.

The mandate of the exploration division is to grow the value of the Company by discovering or acquiring resources that can increase future cash-flows. The objective is to discover one major resource each year. This is achieved through the effective application of geoscience techniques and processes, taking account of HSEC, economic, commercial and political factors.

The exploration team has a proven discovery record and includes 180 geoscientists exploring for a broad range of commodities in 35 countries. Due to the recent expansion of the Company’s exploration efforts in the Asia region they are seeking experienced exploration geologists for the following staff roles:

• Senior geologist, Coal
• Senior geologist, Copper
• Senior geologist, Diamonds

-- Qualifications
• Candidates for these roles will be appropriately qualified; graduate geoscientists/ engineers with several years mineral exploration experience and possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The roles will demand significant field work and travel.
• Minimum 3-5 years Asian exploration experience in addition to other exploration experience. Continuous professional development (CPD) is encouraged.
• Membership of AusIMM, SAIMM, IMMM, or equivalent body and preferably "Competent Person" status, e.g. Professional/ Chartered Geologist status is an advantage.

-- Skills and experience
• Specific country knowledge and knowledge of HSEC would be advantageous
• Good IT-geology skills, comfortable with data management, analysis and presentation
• Fluent in English. Central Asian (Chinese, Mongolian or Russian) language skills would advantageous but are not essential.

• Good communication skills at all levels
• Ability to plan strategically and manage budgets effectively
• Self motivated and able to work autonomously, but a strong team player
• Able to manage complexity and ambiguity. Innovative and good under pressure.
• Maintain focus on long term horizons while delivering short term objectives
• Ability to travel frequently

• Shorter term contractual or consultancy positions in commute roles may also be offered depending on individual circumstances and geography.
