VP HSEC - Corporate Role UK Base
A fast growing mid tier base metal producer which can boast a strong balance sheet and a promising international growth portfolio has identified the need for a VP HSEC to take a key leadership role in establishing best practice as the company formalises its corporate structure. The incumbent will be a clear communicator with the determination to drive forward change and possess the vision to implement strategic developments in the field of Environment, Health and Safety.
This position reports directly to the President and CEO. The major objective of the role is to be accountable for the HSEC Management System, its implementation and to report on compliance.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and own the HSEC Information Management system and ensure it is maintained and operated to support Company objectives
Set company-wide HSEC Standards and ensure management complies with these Standards.
Provide HSEC advice, support and assistance to line managers
Recommend Health/Hygiene and Environmental criteria to apply to each site designed to achieve our fundamental policy of conducting our business responsibly
Establish internal auditing systems. Establish and co-ordinate system and compliance and audit programs, internal and external.
Develop the system framework for an External Obligations Register and monitor to ensure it is established and maintained by each site.
Develop, implement and maintain an annual one-page plan covering the Group's HSEC objectives, initiatives and targets and initiate action as required to achieve the agreed targets
Coordinate and advise on the development of long-term Improvement Plans and relate it to the priorities of the current year
Prepare the annual HSEC organization schedule to incorporate key deliverables into job descriptions for managers throughout the organization
Ensure a system is established for the efficient communication of HSEC information between different levels of the organization including induction training for new employees and contractors.
Ensure incident, weekly, monthly, six-monthly and annual reports are prepared and submitted on time as required by the HSEC Management System.
Identify, develop and encourage appropriate environmental behaviours in all personnel.
Review all proposed major plant changes and new investments with a view to reducing the impact of operations; providing efficient use of energy, water and other resources; limiting waste generation and disposal; and where waste must be disposed of, doing so responsibly (refer Policy). Recommend areas for rehabilitation.
Approve external communication with adjacent communities, regulators and other interested parties in relation to environmental and other issues.
Establish relevant benchmarks and identify best practices that lead to these as part of the development of a best practise database.
Represent the Company in respect of relevant external bodies.
Monitor adherence to policies, standards, procedures, Acts & legislation in all operations. Arrange completion of the annual Conformance questionnaires.
Qualifications:
Degree qualified, must have appropriate training in Safety and or Environmental Management.
May well have an operational background and we would expect 10-15 years of working experience covering Health, Safety and Environment
Excellent understanding of all aspects of HSEC management systems
Knowledge and understanding of safety and environment standards as it pertains to legislation and the mining industry
Strong influencing skills and an understanding of the challenges of being in a staff role
Good organizational skills and able to deliver on-time
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Enthusiastic, energetic and able to make things happen
An ability to represent the Company to external stakeholders including government, community leaders, NGOs and other interested parties
Contract conditions negotiable for the right candidate.
