Summary Description of Duties: 1. To use advanced-level knowledge to manage financial reporting and the production of financial statements for Kinross North American operations a. Manages the preparation of the monthly consolidated financial statements and statistics for a division/group of companies and prepares a brief narrative summary highlighting the reasons for variances in the month¡¦s results from budget b. Manages the preparation of quarterly reports; contributes to the finalization of consolidated financial statements, including the notes to the financial statements c. Contributes to the assembly of statistical and other information included in Kinross¡¦ annual report d. Provides assistance to regional controllers in drafting the equivalent materials in subsidiaries¡¦ annual reports e. Liaises with external auditors during their audits of the financial statements f. Coordinates the preparation of accounting issue memoranda in connection with the quarterly and annual financial statements g. Develops and maintains detailed consolidated management reports for review by corporate financial management h. Monitors the achievement of reporting deadlines by regional entities i. Participates in the preparation of key regional AFE¡¦s and investment cases. Reviews financial AFE metrics for accuracy (ex. IRR, Payback, Lease or Buy analysis, etc), prepares a summary of accounting and financial reporting impact and implications. j. May attend regional Joint Venture board meetings and assists operational management in the discharge of their operating partner responsibilities. k. Reviews and monitors the ARO accrual and reporting to ensure the requisite controls exist, and are operational and effective. Performs a detailed review of ARO calculations and model. 2. To advise the management group on financial reporting a. Responsible for the preparation and accuracy of forecast and budget and the reports for management and the Directors, including early recognition of trends / potential problems and business advantages, and advising senior management as appropriate b. Works to continuously improve the accuracy and timeliness of the flow of financial information on the reporting units and ensure their consistency c. Reviews best practices and the competitive landscape and recommends continuous improvement efforts in financial reporting d. Prepares business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders e. Prepares presentation materials for reporting to Kinross¡¦ senior management and Board of Directors f. Ensures all projects are integrated with other business activities and that regional and functional interests are represented; ensures redundancies across improvement projects are minimized g. Participates in the establishment of appropriate accounting policies and procedures 3. To lead and manage a team of highly skilled accounting personnel a. Identifies key performance goals and acts as an advisor to direct reports; works to overcome challenges and minimize risk b. Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance the function¡¦s ability to achieve financial and operating strategy; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the function, and takes corrective action where necessary c. Ensures there is a comprehensive and effective succession management strategy in place for the function; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent and actively develops key talent d. Builds and sustains positive relationships with people at all levels of the organizations from mine site personnel to executive management e. Advise and influence senior management on site finance personnel issues (without direct authority)
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements -Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting -Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including master¡¦s level degree or equivalent -Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise -More than 15 years of related work experience Additional Qualifications & Skill Requirements -In-depth understanding of Kinross¡¦ processes is a definite asset -Experience supervising or mentoring technical employees -Experience leading projects of varying scope and complexity -Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred -Ability to learn quickly -Strong analytical skills -Ability to work in a team environment
