As part of BHP Billiton’s Stainless Steel Material’s Group, Nickel West is the world’s third largest producer of nickel-in-concentrate, providing 16% of global production. Nickel West comprises five outstanding Western Australian-based assets, in terms of operating capability, scale, environmental standards, diversity, technology and development projects.
The Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation (RNO) is a A$2.8 billion project located in the South coastal region of Western Australia, just 180kms from Esperance. The operation, currently in commissioning, includes a new mine and processing facility, producing a mixed nickel and cobalt hydroxide intermediate product using state of the art technology. The operation offers employees a unique opportunity of working in a new, innovative and cutting edge operation balanced with a seaside lifestyle in the popular and picturesque seaside township. This role is residential.
Think Opportunity
Due to significant project work being undertaken to secure Ravensthorpe’s future, an exciting and challenging new role for a Senior Environmental Advisor - Projects is now available. Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent (with significant liaison with the Projects and Engineering Manager) this role offers the suitable candidate the opportunity to work on environmental management in the Fitzgerald Biosphere - one of the Top 10 Biodiversity hotspots in the world.
Think Purpose
The Senior Environmental Advisor - Projects is responsible for providing the necessary environmental support to the Projects and Engineering department. The role’s responsibilities include providing technical input on planning and design to account for environmental requirements, obtaining necessary government approvals and working alongside the engineering staff to ensure approval timelines are adhered to and documentation meets government and Nickel West standards.
Think Requirements
We seek to employ a Senior Environmental Advisor with a strong project management background. As such, we expect the suitable candidate to have a demonstrated background in the Mining and Resources industry, a number of years experience in environmental management and a relevant tertiary degree in Environmental science/engineering. Knowledge of Western Australian legislation and approvals processes will be considered mandatory.
You must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable working effectively with all relevant stakeholders.
