Job Description for the Position of
Senior Mine Geologist
Reporting directly to the Chief Mine Geologist and the Geology Manager, the Senior Mine Geologist is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
1. Implementation of company safety policy, encourage safe working practices and reprimand geology employees as required for not following safety protocols.
2. Liaising with the open pit and underground geologists on a daily basis to ensure that all the required activities of the geology department are completed in a timely manner. These activities encompass:
a. Underground face mark-ups and sampling b. Open pit trench cutting, logging and sampling c. RC drill rig supervision and logging of drill cuttings d. Diamond Drill Rig supervision, direction and logging of core e. Correct open pit ore cut mark up procedures f. Supervision and direction of open pit ore cut mining g. Delivery of samples to the assay lab with completed despatch sheets h. Input of data and maintenance of databases i. Obtaining all required survey information (trench coordinates, drillhole collar coordinates, ore cut surfaces, stope panel voids, sill drive voids etc.)
j. Regular updates of the Mylar sheets showing the geology of the sub-level sills, sample lines and assay results.
k. Publication of Diamond Drill Results and cross sections on the completion of drilling fans
3. Foresight and forward planning of activities to ensure that all required works are completed effectively and efficiently.
4. Designing ore cut outlines in the open pit as per company defined economic and mining criteria and estimation of contained tonnes and grades.
5. Guidance on the development of sub level sill drives and design of stope panels as per company defined economic and mining criteria and estimation of contained tonnes and grades.
6. Daily ore accounting and stockpile inventory.
7. Training in Micromine of open pit and underground geologists to produce plans and sections as required, interpretation of geology and design of sampling programmes (Diamond Drill, RC Drill and trenching).
8. Produce weekly reports for the Chief Mine Geologist and Geology Manager that detail ore quantities mined, sample volumes completed and summary of general activities.
9. Provide assistance to the Chief Mine Geologist and Production Geology Manager to complete monthly reconciliations of Exploration Model to Grade Control Model to the Mill.
10. Monitoring of inventory stocks of key consumables (sample bags, tickets, chisels etc.) to ensure supply of required materials is replenished as required.
This position is a junior management position and as such requires the attitude and responsibility expected of a manager.
