BHP Billiton produces copper, uranium, gold and silver from its Olympic Dam mining and processing operation located near Roxby Downs, South Australia. The operation is a long-life asset with a very significant mineral resource base - being the world’s fourth-largest known copper resource, the fourth-largest known gold resource and the largest known uranium deposit. The expansion project, currently in its Pre-Feasibility stage, aims to significantly increase production from the deposit in the safest and most efficient manner.
Olympic Dam is currently Australia's largest single underground mine and minerals processing operation and is located 560 kilometres north of Adelaide and processes ore through to final, refined products of international standing - all on the one site. Nearby Roxby Downs is a modern, fully-equipped township of around 4,500 people which boasts top-class recreational, civic and educational facilities.
Position Synopsis
Based at Olympic Dam, you will manage all site construction activities ensuring the safe delivery of ODX and OD Project milestones in accordance with BHP Billiton Standards and guidelines. Reporting to the Deputy Project Director, you will develop the scope and manage the site construction schedule and activities for sustaining capital project construction activities at Olympic Dam and off-site regional areas. Ensuring all construction procedures meet HSEC Management Standards and Fatal Control Risk Protocols (FRCP), you will ensure that all site activity is undertaken according to relevant OD and BHP Billiton Standards and procedures and monitor, assess and report on the progress of the construction schedule. Undertaking bid evaluation, selection of contractors and ensuring the contractors selected have the capability to deliver project requirements, you will approve contractor resources as appropriate to deliver project requirements, resolve contractor disputes and ensure contractor requirements are enforced in accordance with agreements, negotiate cost-effective agreements with contractors, in accordance with BHP Billiton standards and monitor and manage Contractor / Consultants performance to ensure compliance with project requirements and deliverables. You will maintain and foster relationships with key stakeholders, the operational client and provide high quality, accurate monthly reports in relation to contractor performance, HSEC reporting, project scope, schedule and budget. Your direct reports will include, but not limited to, the HSEC execution team, the site interface team and project controls.
Skills & Experience
With tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline, you will have experience in managing engineering and construction ideally within the mining industry, with extensive experience in contractor selection and management and project management fundamentals (safety, budget, planning, quality) for large scale projects. You will have experience managing a large scale construction budget with proven financial evaluation skills and an understanding of BHP Billiton project controls, with a strong personal commitment to building and maintaining the highest standards of safety practice through your own actions and leading others. You will have Superior presentation and computer skills utilising the Microsoft Office suite, including project tools.
