BHP Billiton produces copper, uranium, gold and silver from its Olympic Dam mining and processing operation located near Roxby Downs, South Australia. The operation is a long-life asset with a very significant mineral resource base - being the world’s fourth-largest known copper resource, the fourth-largest known gold resource and the largest known uranium deposit. The expansion project, currently in its Pre-Feasibility stage, aims to significantly increase production from the deposit in the safest and most efficient manner.
Position Synopsis
Commencing project work on assignments in either the United States and / or Australia, you will be responsible for the testing and validation of the technology for the autonomous systems implemented at the test site. This includes the set up and validation of the autonomous control systems and communication systems, and development of system maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. You will understand, document and test the set up of autonomous control systems and associated fleet management system and participate in and run autonomous control system validation programs. Developing and testing troubleshooting guides for all the autonomy systems at the trial site, including wireless communications systems, you will validate maintenance procedures for the autonomy components of the autonomous system implemented at the site, validate machine health monitoring procedures for the autonomous units through the associated fleet management system and liaise with the appropriate teams on the processes and procedures for the maintenance and testing post maintenance of all autonomous systems. Working with the trial site management to ensure that the trials are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, you will also control and guide consultants and contractors as applicable.
Skills & Experience
With relevant qualifications or experience in a mining or technology related role, you will have significant experience in technology development programmes, with experience in a Senior Engineer (or similar) role in system development and validation being an advantage. With demonstrated experience in implementing new technologies into a complex environment, you will have good working knowledge of networking protocols, wireless communications and systems integration protocols. Experience with administrating fleet management systems would be an advantage. You will have superior computer skills utilising the Microsoft Office suite.
These opportunities will commence on projects based in either Australia or the United States, after which you will be required to relocate to the Olympic Dam Expansion Project based in Adelaide and / or Olympic Dam in South Australia.
