They provide practical solutions and extraordinary outcomes to a myriad of mining problems and requirements across all commodities, deposit styles and physiographic settings. The consolidation of all key technical mining industry capabilities within one entity positions them uniquely to provide practical operational support, corporate services and studies in a highly integrated and cost effective manner.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Group Executive, Operations and working closely with the Regional Managers and the Global Leaders of the company’s other key sectors, the Global Leader – Mining will formulate the strategic direction for the service line professional discipline and lead the company’s key mining sector in achieving its strategic objectives. He or she will be responsible for all aspects of defining and developing the mining service line, and to drive the growth and technical excellence of the service line professional discipline internationally. This is a critical leadership role. The primary responsibilities for the role include:
Establishing the vision for the service line and quality of service
Working closely with the management team, to drive the growth and technical excellence of the service line professional discipline
Lead the specialty service line by functioning as the key interface with major clients
Developing sub-specialties to meet client needs and driving excellence in client solutions
Developing and leading the specialty service line to ensure the achievement of performance targets
Identifying and managing the technology to produce better service delivery and ensure technical excellence
Fostering and further developing relationships
Identifying and developing strategies for new offerings which would benefit the service line
The location for the role is flexible. It is anticipated that a Global Leader – Mining will be based in either an Australian, Brazilian or South African location.
THE PERSON
Given the significant impact this individual will have in the future success of the service line, it is expected that candidates will bring the following experience, education, and expertise:
Extensive technical expertise in the mining consultancy industry or major mining houses with extensive experience in major operations and projects.
Strategic thinking ability and an orientation towards big picture thinking
Leadership, influencing and collaboration skills
Results-oriented, goal-focused individual with previous experience in leadership of a specialty organisation
Excellent risk management, client relations and business development skills
Proven success at a senior management level, with responsibility for defining and developing strategic vision
Excellent communication and presentation skills
An understanding of the sensitivities and challenges of working in a matrix organization
The ability to lead and motivate people through a period of change
An ability to develop and maintain an industry profile as a thought leader in mining
Demonstrated capability in building and maintaining relationships over a global geography
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, preferably supported by an advanced degree in technical specialty or business
