BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the vast Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in Australia, shipping over 100 Mtpa of iron ore. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation. Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. Position Synopsis

We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our Port Operations. Reporting to the Senior Chemist your role is to support the Chemists in day to day operations to provide timely and reliable analysis of Iron Ore samples. This position is required to work a continuous day/night shift roster.

Your main responsibilities will include:

* Commitment and awareness of BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s safety requirements;
* Data entry into Laboratory Information Management System and Citect Robotic Sample Preparation Unit;
* Assist with calibration and maintenance of analytical and robotic sample preparation equipment;
* Fault finding and operation of robotic sampling equipment;
* Preparing fused beads and analysis by XRF Spectroscopy;
* Performing loss on ignition determination;
* Authorising and reporting analytical results and maintaining quality records; and
* Performing ad-hoc investigations and non-routine analyses.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will preferably have a tertiary qualification in a laboratory related discipline, as well as extensive laboratory experience in a related industry. Recent chemistry graduates are also encouraged to apply. Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems and knowledge of a variety of sample preparation equipment is highly desirable.

A team player, you will have a collaborative nature and enjoy working with others. You will display proven oral and written communications skills as well as experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
