BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the spectacular Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120Mtpa of iron ore. Our railways, consisting of more than 800km of track, connect our mines in the Pilbara with our shipping facilities in Port Hedland. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, with more than 100 locomotives and around 4,500 carriages, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation.
We currently have an opportunity for a forward thinking and driven leader within our Rail Growth & Technology Department. Project ROS is a large and complex project of work, for which the key business drivers of the project are to reduce train delays, increase throughput, reduce overall operations costs and enable better production planning.
This role will report directly to the Manager and will be required to take on responsibility for operational project support to the ROS and RTS work during the project phase. You will assist the operations in change management, risk assessments, commissioning and resolution of day-to-day issues. The successful candidate will support, liaise and assist stakeholders to address business interests and be outcome focused.
The Key accountabilities within this role are:
* Maintaining a high profile in the promotion of safe working conditions and practises so as to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and contractors;
* Providing leadership to a diverse team of technical specialists;
* Maintain and support Rail Systems aligned with business KPIs;
* Execute growth plans through continuous improvement;
* Assist in the development, maintenance and management of identified risks;
* Implement and support LEAN processes throughout the team;
* Be an active member of the Rail leadership team, providing support to a large operation; and
* Leading cultural and organisational change.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate for this role will display strong leadership and technical skills that they have developed from their extensive experience in Rail Systems, large Rail projects and project methodology. You will have proven business analysis skills, and ideally have a degree in engineering or an associated discipline.
Credible and influential, you have the ability to clearly communicate ideas and opinions throughout the business, build relationships and influence others to optimise safety and performance. Your commitment to delivering on plans will be a key contributor to your success, as is an understanding of global and local interfaces and the ability to translate strategies into meaningful, local actions.
