GEMCO is seeking two outstanding individuals for the positions of Marine Pilot to be responsible for providing support to the Port Operations Superintendent in ensuring the safe and efficient stockpiling of manganese ores, ship loading, management of port operations, coordination of ship operations and port related interfaces.

Reporting to the Port Operations Superintendent, this pivotal role must give full consideration to relevant safety standards, production requirements and department objectives. The position will include efficient provision of Shipping Agency functions and associated Statutory Authority functions of Customs and Quarantine, pilotage of shipping within the Milner Bay Pilotage District, preparation of draft surveys and coordination of ship berthing and cargo handling functions.

Together with the Ship loading Supervisors this critical role will coordinate all shipping movements at the Port whilst in addition fulfil the role of Port Facility Security Officer in accordance with the GEMCO Maritime Security Plan.

Key tasks include, but are not limited to:

* Co-ordinate shipping, shiploading, and Port operations in consultation with Quality Control, Marketing, Charterers Representatives, Shipping Agents, and Statutory Agencies
* Administer the marine aspects of port operations relating to conservancy, pilotage, draft surveys, and advice on towage and repair and maintenance of floating plant and structures
* Supervise the safe and efficient loading of and discharge of ships using the port and ensure accurate draft surveys for cargo quantities
* Oversee preparation of cargo documentation and provide ship husbandry, customs, and quarantine services for ship-owners and managers

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

* Master Certificate of Competency
* Sailed as Chief officer on Bulk Carriers
* Drivers Licence

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

* Degree in Shipping Business/ Maritime Logistics
* Pilotage Licence
* Knowledge of Shipping Agency work and Port related interfaces
* Ship-Handling / Pilotage experience with bulk-carriers
* Experience of budget setting and control, basic accounting and reporting
* Experience with software packages including Microsoft Office, Outlook and GSAP (or equivalent)

This role requires the incumbent to hold (or be able to gain) Certificate II in Security Operations and MISC card (Please note a criminal history clearance and fingerprinting are necessary requirements to obtain this qualification).
