Position Overview:
Operating on a 16 days on, 12 days off roster commuting from Cairns, you will work as part of a highly trained, multicultural team on this exciting international project. The Porgera Joint Venture is based in the Highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea and offers a unique and challenging work environment. At an elevation in excess of 2100 meters and surrounded by limestone buttes the Porgera Valley has a temperate climate all year round with an annual rainfall in excess of 3.6 meters.
The opportunity exists for you to relocate to Cairns and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a modern and dynamic city offering excellent educational facilities up to university level. Alternatively and subject to conditions, the company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT FITTER SUPERVISOR / TRAINER
(SHOVELS & DRILLS)
The position
Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, this role will be responsible in maintaining a safe & efficient work environment, focused on availability by mentoring the National Tradesman in the correct procedures to achieve agreed outcomes and continually improve.
This role will include coordinating and supervising daily mobile maintenance section and break down repairs, including the provision of technical training sessions for the National tradesmen in diagnosing and trouble shooting breakdowns of machinery and equipment as required.
You will be responsible in coordinating workshop activities in making sure available resources are utilized, maintain equipment to a safe and efficient standard in accordance with government regulations & and company policy and also developing JSA’s and SWP’s for mobile workshop equipment.
The person
You must be familiar with heavy earthmoving equipment and possess heavy equipment or automotive mechanical trade qualification. Experience in supervision is essential for this role, as are well developed communication skills and the ability to liaise at all levels. Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated managements systems and email is also a requirement of this role.
You will also responsible to oversee the provision of training and coaching of National employees as part of the company’s Training and Localisation Plan. You will also have a high level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG.
This challenging role requires you to engage with all people associated with the PJV Operations and to understand, learn from and share cultural differences. It is essential that you have the capability and desire to transfer skills and knowledge to a national workforce.
