The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Controls & QA, Base Metals PMO, the Risk Management Lead will be responsible for leading the guidance and governance aspects for all elements of integrated risk management applied to Base Metals Capital Projects. This includes risk identification, mitigation, quantitative simulation, monitoring, reviewing and auditing, throughout the project development cycle, from scoping study to project implementation.
This role will also be responsible for the maintenance of the risk assessment software and for ensuring that analysis and reporting are adequate to enable senior management to make decisions on risk management and control. This will require interaction with personnel at various levels in the organization and travel to Base Metals locations around the world.
This position can be located in either Mississauga or Sudbury, Ontario.
Accountabilities:
- To develop and update PDS standards and guidelines to align with the integrated risk management processes as per Vale norms, standards, policies and procedures
- To maintain regular communication with Vale DIHT Risk group in Brazil to ensure methodology alignment
- To provide risk management guidance and coaching to Base Metals Project Teams
- To monitor and review the risk management processes within the projects to ensure compliance with Vale requirements
- To liaise with operational and corporate Risk Management groups within Vale as required
- To guide and assist in the coordination of contractual arrangements for Risk Management service providers as required supporting project Risk Management needs
- To promote, guide and govern effective application of Vale's Risk Management system for planning, administration and control of Risk Management for the projects
- To coach and mentor personnel employed on the projects in Risk Management activities
- To participate in Alignment, QA/QC and Tollgate sessions as required to guide and support Risk Management processes and deliverables
- To provide support, education and training to Vale staff and contracted service providers in the area of project risk management
- Ensure impacts of assessed risks are reflected in the projects' costs estimates and/or schedules as applicable
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree within related field
- P.Eng., CA/CMA/CGA would be an asset.
Experience:
- Experience in operations control, and/or audit or regulatory experience
- Project management skills to plan, manage, complete and monitor activities across the project groups
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Multi-tasking, results-oriented individual with ability to identify inter-dependencies and leverage multiple sources of information at once
- Comfortable with balancing competing priorities and changes in scope/direction
- Capable of operating independently with minimal day-to-day supervision
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in risk management software applications (PHA-Pro, Stature, @Risk, Primavera Risk)
- Good understanding of Vale's Risk Management Methodology and the Base Metals Project Delivery System
