Description

The Tax Manager will be responsible for the Canadian income tax provision and be involved in various Canadian tax compliance, consulting, and planning issues on federal, provincial, and international tax matters. The Tax Manager will be accountable for the following activities: · Prepare quarterly Canadian income tax provision and related journal entries, utilizing knowledge of U.S. GAAP provisions such as FAS 109 and FIN 48 · Prepare all Canadian tax compliance · Reconcile all tax related general ledger accounts · Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of federal and provincial income and sales (GST/HST) tax laws, regulations and current developments · Manage the tax side of the Canadian budgeting and forecasting process · Develop relationships with various tax, legal, treasury, business and accounting personnel throughout the company to gather and analyze data needed for tax compliance · Develop relationships with the company’s external advisors and auditors with respect to tax matters · Research issues relating to Canadian tax matters · Support corporate tax strategies and initiatives, including transfer pricing policies · Obtain a thorough understanding of key internal financial reporting and tax compliance software capabilities and reporting functions · Create and maintain effective document retention and issues tracking system for Canada · Provide assistance with tax authority audits through information gathering and status documentation Requirements · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance · CA, CMA or CPA certification · 5 - 7 years tax accounting experience required; Mining tax experience required; Big Four experience preferred · French language-speaker preferred · Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and tax software applications · Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in U.S. GAAP (including FAS 109 and FIN48) · Ability to work independently as well as in a team · Strong communication skills .
