Description

Responsible for assisting Director Environmental Compliance with numerous company-wide environmental programs and initiatives. Expected to work directly and closely with the field operations on a daily basis. Strong organizational and communication skills, results driven and business focused. Lead in the identification and correction of compliance program deficiencies. Provides broad oversight of the compliance programs and assurance of their consistent application. The main driver for systemic improvements in the overall environmental program for the US Iron Ore business unit of Cliffs Natural Resources.

• Build and enhance tools and systems that institutionalize the task and responsibility commitments of permit and plan conditions as well as strategic programs to support corporate initiatives.

• Assist facilities in further integrating “Permission to Operate” concepts into day to day operational environmental expectations.

• Oversee and coordinate the development and implementation of the USIO-wide Environmental Information Management System.

• Work closely with the facilities in the development, implementation and tracking of corrective action plans resulting from enforcement actions or audit findings.

• Coordinate responses and programs for tracking and providing the information needed for various corporate initiatives and reports such as sustainability reporting, green house gas reporting, metrics and target development etc.

• Coordinate and lead in the consistent application of a robust root cause assessment of all Notice of Violations and other significant environmental incidents.

• Assist in implementation of “Management of Change” processes that appropriately capture environmental commitments and manage risk.

• Assist in identifying and helping to implement programs to improve performance, reduce risk or otherwise provide strategic advantages to the corporation.

• Assist in oversight and tracking of environmental spending and budgeting.

• Complete other tasks as requested by the Director Environmental Compliance for US Iron Ore.

Education:

• B.S in Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years experience in industrial environmental management, experience in taconite or other mining preferred
