Our Client is a London based Aim-listed exploration company exploring for base metals and platinum group metals (PGM) through subsidiary companies in Madagascar.
Seeking to appoint exploration project geologists to lead field exploration teams on potentially world-class exploration project/s in remote parts of Madagascar.
** Experience
Minimum 2-3 years experience in field exploration and an appropriate BSc in geology or higher,
A history of mapping and drilling in ultramafic systems and exploration success, if any, in base metals, preferably with a background in nickel, copper and PGM.
** Responsibilities include
• Leading detailed mapping programmes
• Managing target generation
• Integrating multiple aspects of field and laboratory data
• Supervising soil and drilling operations
• Quality control and quality assurance (QA-QC)
• Technical report writing
• Generating resource modelling and manipulating data sets
• Interpreting and reporting on geological analysis suitable for a quoted company
** Specific experience include
• Elements of project management in the field
• Mapping and drilling associated with copper, nickel and PGM exploration
• Stream sediment sampling, soil sampling, geophysics
• Evaluating preliminary deposits
• Use of exploration oriented software including Micromine (preferred) and Arc. Experience with other relevant software would be considered
• Familiarity with QA-QC methods
• Excellent communication and reporting skills, with an ability to build local relationships is essential
• Knowledge and fluency of French desirable but not essential.
** Conditions
• Working for highly experienced board of directors familiar with Madagascar’s mineral rich resources.
• Reporting to in-country Country Manager.
• Competitive salary (~US$80k+).
• Commencement date - as early as possible in 2008 - February/March 2008 latest
• Single status appointment
• Initial contract period 12 months.
• Work schedule of 2 months on 2 weeks off.
• Expatriate economy return ticket one for beginning and end of the contract plus one at end of each tour of duty to place of domicile or to alternative regions capped at domicile cost offered in the reward package.
• Full administrative, technical support and database office in capital Antananarivo
• Working with local Malagasy geologists and technicians.
• Remote working conditions - tented camp accommodation
• Satellite communication and field computers provided
• All board and accommodation in country paid
