Senior Geologist

Our client has an urgent requirement for a Mine Geologist/Senior Mine Geologist at their underground gold mine in the Central Tablelands of NSW, only 3.5 hours drive from Sydney. This client, a junior mining company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, has just undertaken their first gold pour and plans to continue to expand the operation in 2008/09.

Applications are invited from geologists who possess a minimum of 2 years’ experience (preferably in an underground operation). However, this client will consider very senior and experienced geologists as well, and will modify the scope and responsibilities of the role to suit the right individual

Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Grade Control

* Initiate timely grade control sampling for ore drives to minimise disruptions to mining operations and ensure ore is available for mining when required;
* Complete grade control face maps;
* Complete mapping of walls and backs; and
* Ensure ore drive headings are marked for development

Diamond Drilling

* Supervise drilling contractor for safe & efficient conduct;
* Monitor logging and sample quality;
* Check all drilling contractor daily drilling log sheets and authorise as necessary; undertake regular checks of metres drilled to check validity of claims;
* Geological and Geotechnical logging of core;
* Maintain drilling database integrity; and
* Update geological and mineralisation models with drilling and development data.

Essential criteria:

* Geological degree from a recognised institution or equivalent;
* Good time management, organisation, supervisory and communication skills.;
* Computer literacy, experience in Access, Excel and Surpac would be highly regarded; and
* At least 1 year’s experience in underground mining, preferably in narrow vein gold operations.

The role is available on a contract or permanent basis, to fit in with the successful applicant’s preference and the company will offer FIFO (East Coast of Australia) or residential for a contract employee. A modified roster and commuting option may also be made available to the right applicant who desires the role on a permanent basis and is able to commute from the surrounding region.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and this employer will be very flexible to accommodate the right applicant to fill this urgent requirement.
