Senior Coal Mining Engineer

Our client is a diversified mining group focussed on China. They seek to appoint a Senior Mining Engineer to assist in providing mining technical support and leadership, working in the coal project team for reserve modelling, mine design, costing and scheduling. Joining the Technical Services team in their Beijing office, it is envisaged that the incumbent will spend 80% of their time in the Beijing office and 20% in the field. The successful applicant will be able to communicate effectively in both Chinese and English, both verbal and written.

Reporting to the General Manager – Technical Services, specific responsibilities of the Senior Mining Engineer will include:

* Develop coal reserve models from geologic resource models to Chinese and International standards, undertake engineering design, costing and scheduling for coal mines, reconcile, and report using the preferred suite of software.
* Prepare and manage project technical data and documents associated with developing reserve models and mine designs. This includes data processing, project reports, soft and hard copy filing, ensuring the data is correct and an accurate representation.
* Provide mine engineering support to operating mines as requested.
* Project manage, or be an active team member in co-ordinating work with others of the same objective.
* Approval of all operating expenditure and commitments as per authority policy of the role. To manage the budgets, financial reporting, variances in accordance with best practice.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

* Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering.
* At least five years mining engineering experience, preferably including operation and technical work in Chinese coal mines. Open cut and underground experience is desirable.
* The ability to communicate effectively in Chinese and English, both written and verbal.
* Ability to work in and promote a team environment, and the ability to multi-task, prioritise and meet agreed deadlines.
* The ability to either lead or be an active team member across different disciplines and organisation levels. Obligation to report in a formal and informal manner depending on requirements.

An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The incumbent may choose to reside in Beijing or undertake the role on an international commute of 4/2 weeks.
