Boral’s Plasterboard division manufactures and supplies plasterboard and related products throughout Australia for residential and commercial applications via an extensive network of distribution centres. Their manufacturing plant located in Port Melbourne consists of three production plants and employs over 80 full time staff.

A challenging opportunity exists for a highly motivated, proactive and experienced person from a process/production based environment to join the VIC/TAS Plasterboard Operations Team as Shift Team Leader

Duties and responsibilities include:

Supervise the production functions of plaster and plasterboard manufacturing (on a continuous rotating shift) on the site within agreed KPI’s for safety, quality, efficiency and performance. Proactively ensure all site HSE (health, safety & environment) issues are appropriately addressed. Lead and participate in accident investigations, risk assessments and other company safety initiatives, aimed at improving safety around the site. Demonstrate safety leadership in the Manufacturing environment. In this role, the successful candidate will also participate in the roll out of safety initiatives to the shop floor to achieve safety best practices. Comply with site Quality and Assurance procedures and propose changes where applicable. Ensure only acceptable quality product is released to the warehouse/market. Maintain a harmonious employee relationship in accordance with the Award and Site Enterprise Agreement. Promote and lead behaviours consistent with Boral’s Values. Supervise and train employees in operating the plant to improve team performance, minimise downtime and maximise yield and efficiency. Conduct regular team meetings and proactively address any issues raised. Maintain accurate employee records. Undertake projects to improve areas of responsibility and assist the Production Manager in the overall running of the plant to achieve plant performance objectives. Ensure raw materials are used and accurately recorded in accordance with formulations to achieve the quality standards required. Accurately record finished goods. Assist with coordination of engineering related actions to the plant. Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained and improved. Provide any production, safety or other reports on a weekly or monthly basis as requested by the Production Manager. Ideally you will have:

Trade or Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering or Science discipline. Demonstrated experience in a similar manufacturing role. Demonstrated experience in managing a team, and working in a team environment A strong commitment to Safety, Change Management and a clear ability to impact outcomes and influence. Solid word processing and spreadsheet skills. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Training in Kepner Tregoe problem solving.
