BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina is the joint venture operation of BHP Billiton, Japan Alumina Associates and Sojitz Alumina. An opportunity exists to join one of the most modern and efficient bauxite mining and alumina refining operations in the world, through a Traineeship in Metalliferous Mining.

Worsley’s Boddington Bauxite Mine is seeking new members for its Production team as a Trainee in Mobile Plant Operations. This is a unique opportunity to combine on-the-job competency-based training while working in a dynamic open-cut mining environment. For the successful candidate, the training and work-based learning will culminate in the attainment of a nationally recognised qualification of Certificate II in Metalliferous Mining Operations (Open Cut).

This challenging 12-month traineeship involves a number of functions including efficiently operating Komatsu 985-5 Haul trucks; working in compliance with the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations and all environmental and BBM specific standards and procedures; planning the detail/method of daily assigned tasks within directed guidelines; working towards achievement of daily sectional targets and agreed KPI objectives; assisting other team members with job performance as required and completing a range of “on-the-job” training modules. The incumbent will also gain basic experience in crushing, environmental and auxiliary equipment operations.

It is expected that successful applicants will have completed a minimum of year 10 secondary education with the equivalent of at least Stage 4 passes in English, Mathematics and Science. Further post compulsory secondary education or TAFE studies will be an advantage. Applications are encouraged from locally residing persons and a ‘C’ (Car) Class Driver’s licence is essential. The successful applicant will be eligible to apply for a HR licence.
