BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the spectacular Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120Mtpa of iron ore. Our railways, consisting of more than 800km of track, connect our mines in the Pilbara with our shipping facilities in Port Hedland. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, with more than 100 locomotives and around 4,500 carriages, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation.
We are now seeking a motivated and safety conscious individual to actively provide BHPBIO railroads with Signalling Automatic Train Protection (ATP) support, necessary to ensure that the system operates in a safe and efficient manner. This role reports directly to the Signals ATP Supervisor.
Position Synopsis
Operating in a climate of continuous improvement, your key accountabilities will include:
* Daily maintenance and fault rectification of Signals ATP system;
* Updating and improving Signals ATP infrastructure;
* Analyse equipment failure trends and recommend replacement;
* Assist in planning, programming and replacing signalling infrastructure;
* Reviewing drawings and specifications;
* Installation of new signalling and ATP infrastructure;
* Validation and verification of new signalling installations and modifications;
* Ensure ATP equipment is maintained and meet the requirements of WA Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources & Australian standards.
* Ensure works and maintenance on the ATP signalling systems are conducted in accordance with BHPBIO policy and procedures;
* Working and liasing with track maintenance, locomotive workshop and communications workgroups; and
* On call to carry out fault rectification and investigations of reported irregularities and incidents associated with ATP.
Your effective communication skills will be deployed to strengthen the team, by providing advice to fellow technicians, liaising constructively with other personnel while valuing their input and contribution.
You will display total commitment to a “zero harm” environment through your active participation and leadership in safety meetings and site safety programs. You will have a gift for careful analysis and effective problem solving, the proven ability to recognise areas for improvement and the initiative to propose solutions.
Skills and Experience
You will have a minimum of five years experience in the field as a technician and be familiar with a rail environment, including devices such as automatic train protection, locomotive borne control systems, signalling equipment, computer based interlocking systems and wayside devices. Experience with the GE transportation suite of equipment is desired. In addition, you will have had experience in a team leader role and be able to demonstrate the ability to remain calm under pressure and be able to recognise and prioritise work as required.
You will have completed a diploma level of formal qualification in Rail Signalling or equivalent. In addition, you will hold a registered cablers licence, a current electrical workers licence, and an ‘A’ Class drivers licence.
Location
This role is based in Port Hedland and is offered on a Fly In Fly out basis from Perth on a family friendly roster. A competitive remuneration package is offered commensurate with experience, and includes performance incentive and a generous superannuation scheme, as well as other benefits.
