Summary Description of Duties: 1. To use advanced-level knowledge to manage all external financial reporting and accounting a. Responsible for financial statement formats, including notes, for the annual and interim published financial statement of Kinross, as developed by the senior financial accountant b. Oversees the development of Management's Discussion and Analysis text, supplementary financial disclosures, and historical summary formats for Kinross¡¦ annual and interim reports c. Participates in the preparation and update of the Corporation¡¦s Financial Control Manual including consensus views of accounting principles and financial control policies d. Participates in the preparation of accounting highlight memos as required e. Liaises with external auditors on accounting policy formulation and disclosure alternatives f. Assists management in preparing presentations to the Audit Committee g. Provides financial / accounting support for special projects such as investigations, due diligence, improvements of business processes, acquisitions, and divestitures h. Provides financial / accounting support to the Investor Relations department by reviewing analyst models and analyzing results in response to analyst queries i. Prepares and presents recommendations on technical accounting matters for the audit committee and / or Board of Directors if necessary j. Ensures all financial reports required in a regulatory filing are appropriately delivered to the Corporate Secretary k. Reviews press releases and other external communications for compliance with disclosure guidelines and regulations such as Reg FD l. Collaborates with cross-functional teams and considers the business impact of decisions on diverse groups; influences others to achieve project goals often without direct authority 2. To advise the management group on financial reporting and accounting a. Prepares business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders b. Influences leaders and key stakeholders to buy into financial accounting change efforts that will result in sustained competitive advantage c. Researches and provides recommendations to Kinross¡¦ senior management on complex accounting and reporting issues; assists regional controllers and corporate accounting staff in resolving local accounting issues upon request d. Suggests appropriate improvements and best in class practices, as a member of the Disclosure committee 3. To use advanced knowledge of financial reporting and accounting plans a. Acts as an ambassador for continuous improvement within financial reporting and accounting; introduces new methodologies and tools to improve current practices b. Identifies the need for and develops company-wide standards, procedures, and policies and ensures compliance with industry and professional regulations c. Ensures all projects are integrated with other business activities and that regional and functional interests are represented; ensures redundancies across improvement projects are minimized d. Determines training and education needs and facilitates the provision of this learning e. Provides input on the drafting of financial disclosures included in prospectuses, management information circulars, regulatory statements, and similar documents filed with securities commissions f. Liaises with accounting and securities regulatory authorities in regard to accounting and disclosure requirements and standard setting g. Provides accounting solutions and information support to key corporate groups including: Investor Relations, Corporate Development, and Treasury
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements -Bachelor¡¦s degree in Finance or Accounting or treasury management -Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including master¡¦s level degree or equivalent -Professional accounting designation (preferably a Chartered Accountant) -10 ¡V 15 years of work experience in positions related to technical accounting and disclosure requirements and issues Additional Qualifications & Skill Requirements -In-depth understanding of Kinross¡¦ processes a definite asset -Experience supervising or mentoring technical employees -Experience leading projects of varying scope and complexity -Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred -Ability to learn quickly -Detail oriented and accurate -Ability to organize and prioritize job duties -Strong knowledge and experience in financial reporting capacity -In-depth knowledge of OSC and SEC Rules and Regulations -Previous experience in responding to SEC/OSC comments -Previous financial reporting experience for a large public company (Canadian and US Market listed)
