(Milling and Classification)

LUMWANA COPPER PROJECT, ZAMBIA

Equinox Minerals Limited, is a dual listed company on the Australian and Canadian stock exchanges with assets in Africa, Australia, Europe and South America. It has commenced development of its 100% owned Lumwana Copper Project situated in the North Western area of Zambia some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west from the provincial capital of Solwezi.

The project is due to be commission at the end of Q2 2008 and, once fully operational will produce copper concentrates containing an average of 150,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a 37 year mine life making Lumwana the largest single copper mine in Africa. The total development activity will include the construction of a 20Mtpa processing plant for concentrate production, a 65km extension of a 330kV transmission line, tails and water storage facilities, development of a fully self contained town for approximately 5000 people as well as associated supporting infrastructure.

At full production the mine will be a single pit multi staged operation moving 130M tonnes of ore and waste per annum. Feed to the Process Plant will be in excess of 20million tonnes pa With some of the major processing plant components being a 60 x 90 Gyratory crusher, 18MW Gearless drive Sag Mill, 16Mw Gearless drive Ball MIll, a floatation circuit and a concentrate circuit for the production of copper concentrate.

The company is looking to appoint an experienced minerals processing industry professional to this very important role which will report to the Maintenance Superintendent. Initially the position will be responsible for the Quality Assurance of the SAG and Ball Mills installation and supervision of the construction contractors but will transfer to a maintenance function after commissioning.

The duties include:
• Managing every aspect of LMC’s OH&S and environment policies, including conducting safety meetings and accident and incident investigations to ensure an injury free workplace.
• Initially acting as ‘owner’s representative’ in managing the contract for the installation of the 18Mw Sag Mill & 16Mw Ball mill grinding circuit installation.
• Planning the daily work schedules and ordering the materials and parts necessary to ensure the effective use of resources and satisfaction of process plant operations personnel’s needs.
• Liaising with process plant supervisors and other maintenance supervisors and planners to set maintenance priorities.
• Liaising with equipment suppliers to identify and implement opportunities to improve product support and resolve maintenance issues.
• Managing the mechanical maintenance workforce to ensure that training needs to improve employee skills and maintenance effectiveness are identified and appropriate training programmes are developed and implemented.

Ideally applicants should have:
• Extensive experience in Gearless mill drive installation and commissioning
• A mechanical trade certificate.
• Experience in the installation and maintenance of traditional gear driven mills.
• Experience in the installation and maintenance of conveyor systems.
• A minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in construction and/or maintenance of large scale mineral processing plants.
• A sound knowledge of laser alignment techniques.
• Strong systems background with proven skills and experience in CMMS (preferably Pronto).
• Experience with reliability centred maintenance systems.
• A sound knowledge of UT bolt elongation measuring techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices.
• Demonstrated ability to transfer skills and knowledge to subordinate personnel.
• Experience as an expatriate in a developing country although highly desirable is not essential.

The position offers a twenty four (24) month contract, working a twelve (12) weeks on three (3) weeks off (seventy (70) days per year leave) rotation. Initially the contract will be single status however married accommodation will be offered as construction proceeds. As the project nears completion the rotational leave roster will also be reviewed. A competitive off shore salary with Zambian taxes paid and other benefits will be provided for this position along with return flights to and from a nominated point of engagement for each rotation.
