Exploration Geologist

Our client, a Tasmanian gold operation located within an easy drive of Hobart and Launceston and with reserves currently estimated to be in excess of two million ounces, is currently seeking an Exploration Geologist. Applications are invited from geologists who have undergone a minimum of approximately 2 years of industry training since graduating and are looking to gain professional development in the area of mineral exploration, in both surface and underground techniques.

The primary aim of this role is the discovery of additional mineral resources to augment the current operations. The incumbent will undertake exploration activities of the surface mining lease, near mine and regional exploration licenses. There will be a strong focus on structural geology and resource interpretation to facilitate the construction and maintenance of geological models of the exploration targets.

As part of the Technical Services Department, the Exploration Geologist reports directly to the Senior Geologist.

Major Accountabilities

• Detailed ore mapping and core logging and geological interpretation as required and to assist and develop your own understanding of the geological setting of known mineralisation.

• Maintain a watching brief for exploration opportunities beyond the current tenements which may from time to time present themselves. This activity could involve undertaking due diligence studies or the preparation of submissions for exploration tenders.

• Statutory reporting requirements for exploration tenements.

• Liaise with all geological related contractors, consultants and Government Departments, particularly Mineral Resources Tasmania, as required.

• Assistance in mentoring other geologists with lesser experience, especially in the area of geological mapping, core logging and data interpretation.

The successful candidate should possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Geology.

• Minimum of two years industry experience in an exploration / production role

• Demonstrated skills using Surpac and MapInfo.

• Computer literacy.

This is normally a dayshift Monday – Friday position, but flexibility in working hours will be required occasionally in response to production demands. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position is available as either Drive-in/Drive-out 10 days on / 4 days off, or Residential 5 days on / 2 days off.
