Our client, located in Queenstown on the West Coast of Tasmania, is seeking a Chief Geologist for its copper operations. This is a geologically diverse deposit where several styles of mineralization have been identified, but the principal orebody currently being developed is disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite, containing copper, gold and silver.
The Chief Geologist is responsible for the leadership and management of the Geology section. The Chief Geologist reports directly to the Mining Manager.
Key responsibilities:
* OHS compliance;
* Develop and manage systems and personnel to ensure that grade control, ore reconciliation and ore reserve estimation processes are conducted effectively and on time;
* Lead and manage the exploration activities of the mine site; and
* Communicate with the mining contractor on shift planning, grade control, diamond drilling, geological mapping and other relevant matters.
To be successful, you should possess:
* Tertiary qualification in geology;
* Minimum of 10 years experience in underground environment, preferably in base metals;
* Minimum of 3 years experience as a Senior Geologist; and
* Sufficient experience and qualifications to qualify as a Competent Person as defined by the JORC code.
The role is offered on a residential basis, in the small township of Queenstown which is connected by roads to Hobart and Launceston, as well as Burnie, just 160km away on the west coast. This role offers the opportunity to take advantage of a relaxed country lifestyle, the natural beauty of the Franklin River World Heritage area, the mountain lakes and world famous trout fishing, whilst also being within a short flight of Melbourne for the shopping and major cultural events.
The roster is 5 days on/2 days off and family accommodation and schooling is available in the town. A generous remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
