Project Manager (Country Manager), Technical

Our Client is a growing and highly profitable mid-sized mining company, with a North American SX listing and a number of global operations. They are looking for a senior manager for a base metal project in an English-speaking country in West Africa.

The candidate will need to fulfill some basic requirements:-
- should currently hold a senior managerial role in a mid-sized miner, say at GM or VP level;
- have some experience of base metal open pit mining, (e.g. iron ore, mineral sands, etc.) in a hot, humid and tropical environment;
- have good managerial skills, including administration, man-management, budgeting and high levels of common office computing skills;
- be able to show a strong, or even respected, engineering background, supported by a graduate-level qualification in an appropriate minerals industry qualification, (e.g. mining, metallurgy, etc.);
- experience of managing an open pit operation, with complications of a tropical environment and also having hands-on experience of mining projects, (e.g. upgrading facilities, improving material handling and even railway upgrades).

This role will suit an energetic and active candidate with 10-20 years of work experience. Candidates must have drive and be prepared to expand on an already enviable reputation in the industry.

Ideally, the company would prefer someone to be resident, or at least in the country for a good deal of time. The accommodations are highly acceptable, safely situated and supplied with chauffeured quality 4x4 transport supplied too. We are reliably informed that the standard of accommodation is first-rate, with build and furnishings of Western quality and standard, and a high standard of living can be had. Education may be an issue and couples with no children may find the role more appealing.
