Mill General Supervisor

Position Overview:

The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of the operational activities on a daily bases as well as supervising the plant staff and hourly workforce. These duties will entail supervision of the comminution circuits which include ore and limestone crushing and grinding circuits, CIL/refinery, cyanide destruction, lime plant and tailings deposition activities. The incumbent will ensure proper safety and environmental management systems are followed as well as organizing employee training activities.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:


Construction Phase:

• In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the operations, including tasks, workplaces and equipment with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard operating procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections.
• Establish with the Mill Superintendent, safety standards that will pertain to the process plant.
• Incorporate the environmental management system as part of the operator training.

• Provide guidance to the Mill Superintendent on which relates to construction and process design.
• Interact with the HR department, to identify potential crushing / grinding, CIL/carbon stripping, lime plant, cyanide destruction and tailings supervisors and operators.
• Involvement in implementing plant operator training and progression, with in-depth operating procedures as well as documentation organization pertaining to the activities carried out.
• Incorporate the environmental management system as part of the operator training.
• Review the control strategies and participate in the development of the programming of the DCS and control systems. Identify the training requirements for operations personnel of this system.
During the pre – commissioning and operations phase:


• Develop a commissioning stradegy and the incumbent will be part of the commissioning team.
• In collaboration with the commissioning manager, other area personnel and engineering, coordinate commissioning activities.
• Report progress of commissioning activities and progression, safety and environmental obligations.
• Supervise a team of supervisors and indirectly, operators.
• Lead and implement the safety and training programs, including (but not limited to) the development of the Risk management, Standard Operating Procedures, (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), Workplace Inspections, Task Observations and Training programs.
• The training program will entail in-depth recording of the activities and reports submitted to the Mill Superintendent on a weekly basis.
• Coordinate, in collaboration with the maintenance personnel, all maintenance activities.
• Close involvement with the mining personnel relating to ore blending

Supervisory requirements


• As a General Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for supervision of process plant supervisors, lead hands and process plant operators.
• Lead and direct daily activities within the plant as well as weekly and monthly planning of activities.
• Coordination between different departments, such as plant maintenance, plant technical services and mine operations.

• Planning/Organizing – Prioritizes and plans work activities in a timely but effective manner sets goals to be reached and organizes or schedules other people and their tasks to obtain the goals set forth.

Qualifications

To perform the job required, the person must follow the above mentioned outline. The incumbent shall try to accommodate persons, in a reasonable fashion, who have disabilities to perform essential tasks. The incumbent also, has to open minded towards a persons needs.

Education:
Preferably a post secondary diploma / degree - relating to Metallurgy, Mining and Chemical Engineering is preferred.

Experience:
+10 years experience in processing plants at a supervisory level. Must have practical experience in the following: crushing; sag mill / ball mill grinding; carbon in leach and gold refining, lime crushing, lime kilns, lime slaking, cyanide destruction, tailings management and environmental control. General knowledge of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation/process control is necessary. Experience in setting up training programs and safety procedures. Working in foreign countries is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:
Experience should demonstrate ability to lead, train and develop others, maintaining good working relationships, excellent work ethics and practice good safety and environmental practices. Willing to travel as required. Above average communication skills in English and preferably in English and Spanish. Willingness to learn foreign languages.
