BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the spectacular Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120Mtpa of iron ore. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, with more than 100 locomotives and around 4,500 carriages, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation.
Position Synopsis
An opportunity now exists for a well-organised and responsible individual to fill the role of Rail Crew Scheduler within the Rail Operations group located at Nelson Point. Reporting to the Superintendent Rail Operations Nelson Point, the primary function of this role is to maintain Rail crew Schedules, ensuring appropriately qualified personnel crew all scheduled trains to meet operational needs.
In a climate of safety and continuous improvement, accountabilities will include:
* Ensure all Hedland, Newman, Redmont, FIFO and contract Rail Crew rostered positions are covered, taking into account leave and training requirements;
* Book flights and accommodation for all FIFO crews,
* Maintain rostering systems and schedules;
* Monitor work attendance of crews and highlight issues as they arise.
Skills and Experience
To be considered, you must have previous experience in a dynamic roster environment and proven proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Excel. Experience with computerized rostering systems and GSAP will be highly regarded.
In addition it is essential that you must have the ability to communicate confidently at all levels and establish a good rapport with a diverse range of people, both internal and external. You shall be able to self-manage and have the ability to work independently. Your keen eye for attention to detail is crucial as is the ability to manage priorities. Your proven track record in these areas will ensure success in the role.
Location
This role is based in Port Hedland and is offered as either a residential role or a Fly In Fly Out basis from Perth on a family friendly roster. Port Hedland is in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Located on the coast, Port Hedland is the largest regional centre in the North West, close to Broome, Karratha and Karijini National Park. The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education service, entertainment, sporting, shopping and medical facilities, and a strong sense of community.
