Position Overview:
Operating on a 16 days on, 12 days off roster commuting from Cairns, you will work as part of a highly trained, multicultural team on this exciting international project. The Porgera Joint Venture is based in the Highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea and offers a unique and challenging work environment. At an elevation in excess of 2100 meters and surrounded by limestone escarpments the Porgera Valley has a temperate climate all year round with an annual rainfall in excess of 3.6 meters.
The opportunity exists for you to relocate to Cairns and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a modern and dynamic city offering excellent educational facilities up to university level. Alternatively and subject to conditions, the company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
The Position:
Reporting directly to the Power Generation Services Manager, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of safe and reliable power generation facilities, by the application and monitoring of generation and maintenance systems. The role offers significant career opportunity as it requires the incumbent to support and strengthen our electrical team with your technical and project implementation skills. This team blends experienced professionals with a motivated National staff to deliver high quality work and excellent customer service.
Major responsibilities include implement and support site-wide and corporate systems to ensure planned power supply is delivered to customers to agreed service delivery levels by managing the operation and maintenance of our generation facilities; Anawe Power House – 6 diesel-powered generators, Hides Power Station with 9 gas-turbines and associated distribution infrastructure including 132kV transmission line.
You must have the ability to motivate and mould a team to achieve desired outputs is an essential competency for this role, as is a strong customer service focus and demonstrated ability to drive change and continuous improvement.
You must be able to demonstrate a strong desire to be part of a team that is committed to safety, development of its national work force, setting and meeting production targets and strong cost control and financial acumen.
The Person:
You must have recognised tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering while high voltage accreditation is desirable. You will have significant experience providing power generation services in minerals processing, refining or heavy industry and be confident working with high voltage equipment and PLC control systems. Project management experience and the ability to complete tasks on time is also a requirement of this role.
This challenging role requires you to engage with all people associated with the PJV Operations and to understand, learn from and share cultural differences. It also has the responsibility of overseeing the provision of training and coaching to National and Local employees as part of the company’s Training and Localisation Plan. It is essential that you have the capability and desire to transfer skills and knowledge to a national workforce.
