Duties: Reporting to the Director of Petroleum Geoscience this senior position interprets geophysical data (particularly seismic data) and supervises other geophysical / geological staff. Provides leadership in regard to the direction and focus of geoscience research. Prepares written reports and gives oral presentations to promote petroleum exploration and development. Has access to confidential data as well as public domain data and must handle accordingly. Participates in the administration of exploration and development activities – particularly in onshore area. Participates in the development of oil and gas policy and legislation. Provides expert technical advice to the Department of Natural Resources regarding fundamental decisions under the Atlantic Accord and on geoscience related policy items. Represents the Department on geoscience committees at the local, national and international level
Qualifications: Knowledge of seismic interpretation, Newfoundland geology, oil and gas administration and the Newfoundland and Labrador energy sector, seismic workstation and other related microcomputer applications is essential, Candidates must be able to work independently and possess initiative together with strong analytical, oral and written communications, organizational, presentation, supervisory and interpersonal skills. The above qualifications would normally have been obtained through graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor of Science with major course work in Geophysics supplemented by experience in seismic interpretation and related work in the petroleum industry. Eligibility for Registration with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador is normally required.
Salary: $57,111.60 - $67,394.60 (GS-44)
