SPECIALIST - DRILLING

London

The Minerals Exploration Group is a significant user of contracted drilling services in its globally-dispersed exploration projects. We now seek a Drilling Specialist with high level communication and influencing skills, to embrace a key leadership and decision-making role to optimise the selection and operation of drilling equipment and to establish safety standards to achieve the Company’s Zero Harm aspiration in Exploration.

Based in London and focused on the delivery of project-level drilling operational and safety management, you will be responsible for supporting exploration program planning in the selection of drilling equipment, for developing drilling safety management standards and systems, and for providing direct support to exploration project management in their applications. You will also be accountable for verifying compliance with Company and statutory standards.

Importantly, you will have single point accountability for making expert-based decisions on key operational matters relating to drilling safety. A strong leader and effective decision maker, with effective management skills, you will be expected to clearly communicate with, and motivate, people across a wide range of management levels and diverse backgrounds.

Strong technical competencies are essential and you will have expert knowledge of drilling rigs and drilling service management and operations of all types of drilling machinery. Experience in conducting audits of drilling contractors and drilling safety systems will be an advantage. International drilling experience within the minerals exploration industry and tertiary education qualifications in engineering, safety and/or management will also be highly regarded.

Extensive travel will be required as you engage with BHPB Billiton senior and line management and external groups including drilling contractors and key local regulators, to improve drilling safety.
