Description

To provide financial and control stewardship over the assets and associated financial results relating to BHP Billiton’s Exploration & Development divisions within Petroleum. The Global Exploration & Development Controllers finance team is responsible for reporting financial results, monitoring project expenditures, and providing overall financial support to the Global Exploration & Development divisions. This position will assist and work directly with the E & D Controller on management reporting, financial stewardship, and financial analysis.

Reporting Relationships

• This position reports directly to the Exploration & Development Controller

• This position will work closely with other members of the E&D Controllers team, Finance Business Partners, Shared Service Team members and the Operational Asset Team members

Experience & Qualifications Required

• Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance

• A minimum of 4 to 5 years experience in financial analysis and/or accounting

• Petroleum experience preferred

• Must be able to handle multiple priorities efficiently

• Strong PC skills (Excel, Word, Power Point etc.)

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and peers

• A proactive individual who can work without close supervision

• Good problem solving skills, analysis, and judgment

• Experience with SAP preferred

Accountabilities:

• Assist in developing, deploying and monitoring compliance with global procedures and controls

• Prepare/coordinate Monthly Operations and Financial Review (MOFR) Capex reporting

• Assist with monthly MOFR Development reporting

• Lead/Assist with new entity creation, both technically and operationally

• Review/audit financial models for Exploration and Development projects

• Respond to inquiries from the Exploration asset team and the Petroleum CSG

• Provide ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance support

• Work with E&D Controller and Change Management teams to conceptualize and implement process and systems improvements

• Provide financial review of contracts and agreements, when applicable

• Assist with recording and monitoring of monthly accruals

• Running and analysis of WBS reports during month-end close process

• When necessary, assist in the compilation of monthly variance commentary and periodic balance sheet reviews

• Review and analysis of G&A reports

• Assist in month-end reporting activities

• Participation in the Balance Sheet & Stewardship Review process within the division

• Assist with resolution for all open “action items” regardless of origin (internal audit, Stewardship Review, fraud reporting, etc)

• Along with the Divisional Controller, act as the primary interface for BHPB’s external auditor to ensure proper coordination of activities and closure of open issues

• Assist the Divisional Controller and Finance VPs in the submission of accounting policy recommendations and Accounting Matters for Consideration to the Global Financial Controller for approval

• Assist the Exploration & Development Controllers Team in the timely delivery, completeness and accuracy of all standardized reports. This would include data collected from people embedded in the division as well as analytical commentary explaining the difference between actual and expected results
