JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Manager, Joint Interest Accounting, you will be responsible for the management of outstanding royalty or encumbrance obligations to and from Suncor relative to Western Canada Conventional oil and gas assets and document and utilize business processes that assimilate new financial system functionality with divergent historical reporting practices. This position requires significant collaborative teamwork within North America Onshore (NAO) business.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide contract & agreement analysis and interpretation to business groups and accounting colleagues
- Technical expert for Joint Venture encumbrances, understands the impacts or inter-relationships with other departments or companies
- Utilize expert knowledge in a variety of energy asset management disciplines, interpret complex contracts and agreements and lead the creation of appropriate accounting processes to ensure accurate accounting treatment
- Provide advice and resolution alternatives and recommendations for complex encumbrance issues
- Ensure consistent application of Suncor joint venture standards and chargeability guidelines
- Responsible for amalgamation of current inventory of Partner Operated Royalty Interest recovery opportunities and exposures
- Responsible for Recovery Process implementation through addressing inventory, reconstructing history to determine account status, pursuing collection and/or distribution of outstanding obligations, and transitioning account for future maintenance
- Responsible for developed business process to manage Suncor's NAO Royalty and Encumbrance Rights and Obligations
- Provide support to system testing and enhancement activities
- Identify outstanding issues and works to establish priorities or adjust processes to create efficiencies and improve functional effectiveness in Encumbrance Joint Interest Accounting (JIA) discipline
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
- University degree in a related field
- Accounting Designation preferred (CGA or CMA)
Skills and Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of Land & JV Agreement terms and relevant accounting application, Division of Interest, Partnership and Encumbrance scenarios, accepted Industry practices, Oil & Gas operations, corporate requirements, government regulations and GAAP, & PASC Accounting procedures as related to Joint Account representation versus Encumbrance Account representation and Asset Management accounting principles
- Expert knowledge of upstream accounting structure including production, revenue, midstream, marketing, joint interest, fixed assets, accounts payable and financial accounting impacts
- Advanced knowledge of industry billing practices and PASC accounting procedures regarding Joint Account chargeability & obligations
- Ability to find creative solutions and adapt to adverse imperfect information situations in the discharge of contractual obligations
- Expert investigative, analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills
- Excellent system and computer skills - Advanced Excel, FACTS, SAP, QBLM, Accumap, Petroleum Registry, QByte, PRISM, etc
- High appreciation for control mechanisms to meet external and internal audit requirements
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholder group holding multiple interests
- Superior network and negotiation skills
- Proven team and customer service orientation
- Ability to work independently for lengthy investigation and analysis
