OMV New Zealand Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of OMV Aktiengesellschaft, Austrias largest individual listed company and the leading oil and gas group in Central and Eastern Europe. OMV has been present within the New Zealand Oil and Gas industry since 2002 and is committed to a long-term investment in the region.

OMV New Zealand owns a 10% interest in the Maui gas field, a 26% interest in the Pohokura gas/condensate field, a 69% interest in the Maari oil field and interests in a further 7 offshore exploration/appraisal permits. OMV New Zealand is the Operator of the Maari offshore oil field development project in Petroleum Mining Permit 38160.

2007 will be a defining year in the growth of OMV in New Zealand with the Maari project moving towards production and an active exploration drilling programme scheduled.

OMV New Zealand require a Senior Exploration Geologist to be based in Wellington, New Zealand. This is a crucial technical leadership role, reporting directly to the Exploration Manager. The Senior Exploration Geologist will be directly responsible for initiating and implementing exploration activities, and assuming exploration responsibility for technical aspects of specific projects. Applicants must have extensive, recent geological experience in an active exploration and production company. Key responsibilities include:
- Pro-active in identifying and initiating value-adding technical or commercial opportunities.
- Geological and Geophysical interpretation, documentation and presentation of results.
- Acquisition, planning, processing and interpretation of geological and geophysical projects, including preparation of tender documents and evaluation of bids.
- Budget preparation and monitoring of operated and non-operated ventures.
- Preparation of well proposals and field programs.
- Basin and prospect evaluation including risk assessment and reserves potential.
- Leading OMV and Joint Venture Peer Reviews, including overseas project reviews.
- Leading presentations to internal and external parties.
- Farm in and farm out and Exploration Permit bid evaluation.
- Developing and mentoring junior Geoscientists.

Applicants will possess a BSc / MSc in Geology/Geophysics, be able to work independently and have a team orientated focus. A strong analytical and business acumen, in addition to a thorough understanding of exploration geological / geophysical work flows and tools is essential. Technical capabilities for this position are paramount, in addition to excellent communication and relationship skills.
