Position Summary
Position: Geoscience Technician
Department: Oil & Gas Operations
Job Description:
Position will require the handling (i.e., load, maintain, database and manage) of a wide variety of land, geological, geophysical, petrophysical and engineering/well data. Manage and maintain all components of enterprise GIS and portions of oil and gas operations database(s). Maintain and manage portions of oil and gas data room (repository) by collecting, organizing and processing hard copy and digital land, geological, geophysical and engineering/well data using computer processing and data such as SMT 2d/3dPAK, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcInfo/ArcView, IHS Energy PowerTools, Louisiana DNR SONRIS, Microsoft Office Professional, IHS Energy PI/Dwight’s PLUS and Tobin SuperBase survey, culture, well and pipeline data. Perform certain geological mapping, digitizing and GIS analysis. Manage projects utilizing aforementioned software applications. Coordinate enterprise IT efforts with contract, third party IT support and vendors. Position will require occasional trips to partner offices, log libraries and regulatory offices to deliver and (or) gather necessary data. Assist in additional tasks and duties as needed and necessary to meet oil and gas operations department objectives.
Requirements
Minimum (5) years experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically in geoscience, GIS, engineering or technology and high school diploma required. Must be experienced in a Microsoft Windows client-server environment, and SMT. Additional experience in 2d/3dPAK, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcInfo/ArcView, is preferred. Any experience in database design, creation and maintenance is a definite plus. While not required, PETRA or Geographix, Autodesk AutoCAD and Microsoft SQL knowledge or experience is considered a plus. Proven ability to troubleshoot and respond to software or hardware problems and shared responsibilities for position-specific software updates and installations. Must possess strong planning and organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; a “can do” professional attitude and strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Must have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks in a prioritized, deadline-driven manner under minimal supervision once instructed or directed.
