Description
As a result of significant exploration success and a large number of development opportunities Woodside is seeking leading oil and gas professionals in all disciplines to capture growth opportunities in Australia and internationally.

This position is responsible for the assessment of exploration acreage and exploration opportunities within Exploration & New Ventures. Explorationists will work in a multiskilled exploration team, generating new plays, prospects and leads, managing permits, and capturing new business.

Exploration & New Ventures has a staff of approximately 200 and a 2008 exploration budget of approximately A$350 million. Woodside is committed to being a significant growth company, with exploration being the main mechanism for its growth. The Exploration & New Ventures Division has been very successful, consistently meeting or exceeding their exploration targets.

Within Exploration & New Ventures there are 4 exploration teams (Australia, Gulf of Mexico, North Africa, and International Search). Australia and International Search are based in Perth, Western Australia. The Gulf of Mexico Team is based in Houston and Covington, USA and the North Africa Team based in Tripoli, Libya.

An essential part of the role is seismic interpretation, and the incumbent should be capable of rapidly evaluating 3D seismic datasets using the latest technologies. They are required to be multi-skilled and have worked in a variety of geological settings, including deepwater depositional systems. They will be familiar with quantitative amplitude and AVO analysis, plus 3D volume analysis techniques.

Qualifications

Tertiary degree(s), at honours level or above, in a pertinent geoscience discipline is essential

Experience

* Strong technical background in a medium/large Operator environment with international exposure, in a variety of geological settings preferred
* Significant “hands on” experience with 3D volume interpretation techniques and visualisation technologies
* Good knowledge and practical experience with seismic acquisition planning and processing QC.
* Familiarity with quantitative seismic amplitude analysis
* Varied geological experience, preferably with a strong exposure to deepwater Tertiary-Cretaceous depositional systems
* All aspects of play and prospect evaluation, economics and risking
* Sound understanding of exploration workflows
* Joint venture management
* Team building and relationship management
* Knowledge (technical, management, industry/sector knowledge)
* Uncertainty quantification and risk management
